Other Experience
Katie’s interest in set design derives from a lifelong love of visual art, in which she formally trained at the New Orleans Centre for the Creative Arts for three years. She became involved in theatrical arts while undertaking a degree in Art History and English through involvement in UCD dramsoc. She served on the dramsoc committee for two years as production manager and designed sets for over a dozen shows, one of which was nominated for the Best Set Design award at ISDA in 2011. This lead to an illuminating short work placement with designer Paul O’Mahony during Calipo’s Pineapple at Droichead Arts Centre which further clarified Katie’s wish to become a professional designer. After honing her arts management skills through a Masters in Arts Management and Cultural Policy in UCD, and gaining experience with Dublin Fringe Festival Ltd., Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, Landmark Productions and Create- The National Development Agency for the Collaborative Arts, she came to The Lir to inject a high level of professionalism into her design approach. She has most recently assisted designer Francis O’Connor during The Price in the Gate Theatre.
