The Lir students are being Scene and Heard at Smock Alley Theatre from 17th Feb – 5th March
The Lir graduates and students show out in force at Smock Allies Festival.
The Smock Allies: Scene + Heard Festival provides a platform every year for audiences and artists to see and present new work, be it music, dance, theatre, comedy or spoken word. This year a number of The Lir graduates and students are taking part and showing what they’re capable of.
Jane Madden (MFA Playwriting 2015) and Davey Kelleher (MFA Directing 2015) come together to present Lady Play, a stylish satire about people becoming enormous cocoons. With a cast of recent alumni: Alexandra Conlon, Danielle Galligan, Sarah Morris and Aisling O’Mara (BA Acting 2015), Lady Play runs from the 17th -18th of February in the Main Space at 9pm and is presented in a double bill with FOLK. Tickets €15 (€12 concession).
Cora, Leah and I, runs from the 17th – 18th of February on the Boy’s School Stage at 9:30pm. Written by Ellen Flynn (MFA Playwriting 2015) and directed by Laura Bowler (Current MFA Directing Student), it tells the story of three people bound together by loss, trying to live with what they think they have done. Cora, Leah and I will be presented in a double bill with Little – Without Wax Tickets €15 (€12 concession).
A rehearsed reading of New History written by Gillian Greer (MFA Playwriting 2013) and directed by Louisa Sanfey (MFA Directing 2014), will take place at 4pm on Saturday the 20th of February in the Main Space. A group of unwitting performers are confronted by a modern day revolutionary at the celebration of our nation’s greatest rebellion. Tickets €5.
Kevin C. Olohan (BA Acting 2014) will perform his self-written one man show Casey Hanrahan: Happy in Misery on the 23rd and 24th of February at 9:30pm on the Boy’s School stage. This story of a self-obsessed, heartbroken man’s encounter with a soul reaper will be performed in a triple bill with Gulp and Unfamous. Tickets €15 (€12 concession).
Running With Dinosaurs, written by Nadine Flynn (MFA Playwriting 2015) will have a rehearsed reading on the 28th of February in the Main Space at 4pm. Featuring Rory Dignam (BA Acting 2014), Running With Dinosaurs examines the transition of a boy to a man, as he tries to find his purpose outside the walls of an inner city Dublin flat. Tickets €5.
Finally, Emily Foran (Current MFA Directing Student) will direct Michelle McCormack’s one woman show All The Way, on the 3rd and 4th of March in the Main Space at 7pm, with lighting and sound design by Bill Woodland (Current MFA Stage Design Student). The story of a twenty-something year old who lives to be famous, All The Way will be presented in a double bill with Schoolgate Catwalk. Tickets €15 (€12 concession).
