The Lir Academy Launches Acting Courses for Young Performers

This September, we will commence a new range of Saturday classes designed for young people aged 12-17 who are looking to take the next step in their actor training journey.

Inititally, we are running three courses in different disciplines based on age-range. Each course will focus on the core elements of acting training delivered at The Lir Academy.

The course will consist of three terms spanning from September to May and run every Saturday from 10am - 12:30pm. Each term is a course in itself, so you can choose to participate in one term or take your learnings from one term into the next.

We have also relaunched our popular Junior Academy course as Youth Ensemble. This is designed for talented students who wish to possibly pursue further actor training after secondary school. Unlike our Youth Academy courses, which are split into three semesters, Youth Ensemble is a year-long commitment and runs from 10am - 4.30pm with a showing at the end of the cycle, working with a professional director.

YOUTH ACADEMY: ACTING (12-14-YEAR-OLDS)

This course is an introduction to what it means to be an actor. It includes elements of our full-time course such as voice, movement, improvisation, and text-based work, whilst also concentrating on fun and play. The primary objective of this course is to find the joy in acting and create assurance in the performer to provide a solid foundation to move on to the next level. See more here.

YOUTH ACADEMY: ACTING (15-17-YEAR-OLDS)

The course will cover key elements of actor training including Voice, Movement and Improvisation. As well as stage acting, the training will also include an introduction to screen acting. This course provides young actors with a taste of drama school training at conservatoire level whilst offering a broad foundational understanding of acting techniques.

Our September run of this course is currently fully booked. We are operating a waiting list - see more here.

YOUTH ACADEMY: MUSICAL THEATRE (15-17-YEAR-OLDS)

This course offers teens with a passion for musical theatre an opportunity to develop the fundamental techniques required to perform in Musical Theatre – focusing on areas such as Acting, Voice, Movement and Text. This immersion in musical theatre will help students build confidence, as well as develop both new and existing skills in a collaborative environment.

This course is set to run January 2025. To join the waiting list, see more here.

YOUTH ACADEMY: YOUTH ENSEMBLE (15-17-YEAR-OLDS)

Youth Ensemble (formerly known as Junior Academy) is a 6-month-long programme of day-long training on Saturdays, providing practical experience in the three cornerstones of conservatoire training and will ultimately provide a platform for further training in acting, theatre or drama. This intensive course allows students to develop skills in acting, self-confidence, improvisation, listening and taking direction. Unlike the other Youth Academy courses, it has an audition process, longer training days and a professionally directed performance at the end of the course. See more here.
