Join comedian, actor and writer Sharon Mannion on a weekend intensive Comedy Improv Workshop on November 16th.
Sharon Mannion is a highly acclaimed Irish comedian, writer, and actor, best known for her role as Concepta in the RTÉ hit comedy series Bridget & Eamon. She'll cover the basics of comedy improvisation with a focus on staying true to the authenticity of character.
Q: Describe your passion for Improv?
A: I work as a stand-up comedian, actor, writer and improviser but I credit improv as the basis for everything I do. Nothing has shaped my creative perspective more than improv. The skills you learn in improv are the skills that make you a better all-round creative and not to overstate it, but an all-round better human!! It's all about listening, engaging in the present moment, making your partner look good, getting comfortable thinking on your feet, responding authentically and positively in any given situation and so on. Improv has absolutely made me better in auditions, a better writer and an all round better performer.
Q: Wha will people learn on the course?
A: Participants can expect to cover the basic principles of Improv, with a focus on character development.
Q: What type of people can attend this course?
A: The course is for anyone who thinks they might want to give it a try. In the past, we've had everything from professional actors looking to up their game, to people from corporate environments hoping to improve their communication skills and everything in between!
Q: What experience do people need?
A: People don't need any experience and similarly, those with experience shouldn't be put off either. Improv is the kind of performance that meets people where they are and takes it from there.
This weekend workshop will be a deep dive into the aspects and techniques of creating comedy improv. This will take place in a relaxed, inclusive fun environment to bring out your playful side and foster your imagination .
