The Winter’s Tale
by William Shakespeare
After a long visit to his friend Leontes, King of Sicily, the Bohemian King Polixenes decides he must return to his country. Leontes asks his pregnant wife Hermione to persuade Polixenes to stay, but when she is successful in this, Leontes is suddenly convulsed with paranoid jealousy and accuses her of infidelity.
Consumed by his suspicions, Leontes takes a series of catastrophic decisions, tearing his family apart and leaving his newborn daughter abandoned.
Sixteen years later, during hot midsummer festivities, can time mend the old wounds left behind?
The Winter's Tale is a remarkable fusion of tragedy and comedy, a drama that plumbs the depths of vengeful mania and celebrates the redemptive power of love and forgiveness.
