Overview
This weekend workshp will be a deep dive into the aspects and techniques of creating comedy improv. This will take place in a relaxed, inclusive fun environment to bring out your playful side and foster your imagination .
Participants will be taught:
- The basic techniques required to create a piece of theatre or comedy sketch out of nothing
- Learn how to develop character and narrative
- Nurture their inner creative voice
- Find comfort in uncertainty and spontaneity
- Listen effectively
- Communicate through conflict and much more
This course is suitable for all levels, from beginners to more experienced performers who’d like to bring an added element to their craft.
About Tutor Sharon Mannion
Sharon Mannion is a highly acclaimed Irish comedian, writer, and actor, best known for her role as Concepta in the RTÉ hit comedy series Bridget & Eamon. She is also the resident host of The Comedy Cellar at the International Bar, Dublin, the longest running comedy club in Ireland.
A regular on the comedy festival scene, Sharon has performed at major comedy festivals across Ireland, including the prestigious Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, the Paddy Power Comedy Festival in Dublin, and the Vodafone Comedy Carnival in Galway.
She joined Dublin StorySlam in 2021, as co-host of regular shows in the Sugar Club and Civic, Pavillion and Abbey Theatres and as co-facilitator on events for clients such as Deloitte, Lidl and St James Hospital.
She trained with the prestigious Second City and iO Theatres in Chicago; the front runners in utilising improvisation as a tool for both performance and business and now provides a range of both one-on-one and group workshops, specialising in Presentation Skills & Improvisation; Training and Teambuilding and Storytelling, for both the corporate and non-corporate sector.
An accomplished writer, Sharon has contributed to a variety of successful television and radio programmes. She is a co-writer on Blasts from the Past, a historical sketch show for RTÉ 2, has written political satire for Callan’s Kicks on RTÉ Radio 1, and recently wrapped as a writer and performer on You Couldn’t Make It Up, a topical comedy panel show for Newstalk FM.
Previously, she wrote and performed alongside PJ Gallagher and Jim Nugent in the hidden camera series Trojan Donkey for Channel 4 in the UK and is a performer on the IMRO Award-winning radio series Colm O’Regan Wants a Word on RTÉ Radio 1.
She recently won a Writers Guild of Ireland Zebbie Best Radio Script Award for her RTÉ Radio 1 play Stuck, and the radio version of her highly successful one-woman comedy show The Curse of the Button Accordion was nominated for a Celtic Media Award in 2019.
She is the current Comedian-in-Residence with Red Line Book Festival in conjunction with South Dublin County Council and performs Improv Comedy weekly with the Dublin Comedy Improv at the International Bar.
